What if you could have all your dentistry that you have been putting off for years completed in one or two comfortable visits?
What if you could finally receive all of your treatment, free of fear and pain?
Palmyra Family, Cosmetic Dentistry & Braces offers patients sedation dentistry, to allow the treating of people with dental phobias and anxieties. Different types of sedation dentistry include administering oral sedation in a pill format, and nitrous oxide (laughing gas).
What is Sedation Dentistry or Sleep Dentistry?
The patient is given oral medication about one hour before your appointment. The medicine puts you in a light state of sedation.
You will require someone to drive you to and from your appointment. During the entire time you are here, our team will closely monitor you to ensure your safety.
Our Team Understands Nervous Patients
Knowing that many patients are apprehensive about receiving dental care encourages us to make each patient feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible while receiving care.
Listening to your concerns and explaining what is going to happen before starting any procedures and discussing different methods for making you as comfortable as possible is important to you!
Our dental treatment rooms are equipped with stereo headphones and flat screen televisions; you may watch your choice of DVD movies, concerts, or listen to your choice of music during treatment. Reducing the noises you hear during dental treatment, relaxing and entertaining patients during longer dental procedures is all part of the important patient experience. Many new procedures, such as "Lumineers", can give you a beautiful new smile without any drilling, discomfort or need to use anesthetics. When the use of a dental drill is required, our new "air-less" dental drills are much quieter and vibrate much less the the drills made just a few years ago.
Virtually painless injections occur due to the use of an anesthetic cream that is applied to the gums prior to any injections. This cream numbs the spot prior to the gentle injections, utilizing the shortest, thinnest sterile disposable needles possible. No procedures will be started until the area to be treated is totally numb.
Some patients require medication to help them relax. Sometimes oral sedative medications (pills) such as Valium and Nitrous Oxide ("gas") is offered. Often after one or more visits, patients develop a trust in our gentleness and can have further dental treatments without the need of these medications.
Treating Fearful Children
Many times, when treating young children, anesthetic is required.
Most often children are told that their tooth is "put to sleep”, never mentioning the words injection, shot or needle. Most children have no idea they have had an injection, do not cry or even flinch. Most adults have a similar reaction to most of the dental injections given by our team.
If your young child is coming to see us for their "first filling", you should not prepare them by telling them what to expect. Most young children have no fear of the dentist or of having a filling. Don’t try to "prepare" your child. You may inadvertently pass your own fears to the child.
Don’t discuss the appointment until the evening before and then simply tell your child that "tomorrow the dentist is going to fix that problem with your tooth." If your child asks questions about how, simply let them know that the dentist will let them know how easy it is tomorrow, and end the conversation. Schedule the child's appointment early in the day, when they are well rested. When your child arrives for the appointment, it will be explained to them what is happening in terms a child can understand. The great majority of children do great and do not shed a single tear!
We understand your fears and any fears your child might have.
